This helps youth to be able to stay in their pastoralistic communities and to assist their young brothers and sisters with their education.

SOLAR POWER COMMUNITY
FM RADIO STATION

  • To spread community news in three languages, Maasai, kiswahili and English.
  • To create dialogue, provide information about disasters, and be a forum to announce lost children and cows.
  • To provide an opportunity to broadcast success stories, Maasai traditional events, and share our Maasai music.
  • To be a place where entrepreneurs can advertise their product in exchange for sustainable support of the radio station.
  • To provide a way to document and preserve our Maasai history and culture.

IMPROVING THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT IN RURAL SCHOOLS

  • Training of students in installing and ongoing maintenance of solar panels in schools
  • Resulting documented improvement on the national test scores, allowing students to obtain advanced level education
  • Monitoring governmental oversight of accurate operation of the solar equipment

IMPROVING RURAL HEALTH CENTERS

  • Providing solar energy to health centers/dispensaries in rural areas
  • Providing solar training for staff on how to use solar energy in the delivery room, in the operating room, and the in refrigeration of critical medical supplies.
  • Monitoring governmental oversight of accurate operation of the solar equipment.

Environmental protection

  • Encouraging Protection of water sources in Simanjiro
  • Teaching masaai individuals and communities on how to get leases on communal land so that others interests cannot secures leases
  • Controlling invasive, poisonousness bushes, by removing young plants before they spread seeds
  • Providing a program for women to plants trees near water sources, to filter water and eliminate evaporations
